The August sale at Bourne is jam packed with antiques, collectables and general household effects offered over two days on the 5th and 6th August.
We start the sale on the Wednesday with lot number one, a Wills’s Woodbines double sided enamel sign. HD and HO Wills, the famous British tobacco manufacturing company launched Woodbine in the late 1880s and were an affordable, strong and unfiltered cigarette popular amongst the working classes, and especially with soldiers in the First World War. As enamel advertising signs always attract interest, it will be interesting to see how the piece performs on saleday.
As the sale progresses a diverse variety of clocks are offered for sale; from an early 20thC oak cased single fusee wall clock by Sir John Bennett Ltd. for the London National Provincial Bank (lot 2), to an Aesthetic movement clock in a Gothic Revival case (lot 3). If your style veers to the more ornate, a late 19thC Louis XVI style French mantel clock surmounted by a cherub may pique your interest (lot 30).
With silver prices still commanding strong sale results we have pieces in the sale ranging from decorative items such as hand mirrors and scent bottles, to a fine George III 1808 silver cruet stand containing eight bottles (lot 5).
A single owner collection of Vietnamese Bahnar items ranging from lots 101-122 is not something we often see entering the saleroom. The vendor worked as a volunteer teaching English in Kontum in the central highlands of Vietnam in 1994, and collected items ranging from clothing and ceremonial blankets, to weaponry, jewellery and household items.

Nearly 400 lots are located off site this month, and are viewable at Waterside Garden Centre near Baston just off the A15. Following the closure of the Bygones department within the garden centre there are items ranging from longcase clocks and dressers, to Le Creuset pans and pictures.
Viewing is at Waterside on Tuesday 4th August 10am-4pm.
