The recent Art Sale in Lincoln on October 28th was a huge success with a record number of lots and a raft of high ticket prices.

A common theme was the high values placed on equine and horse related paintings and works in the sale.

It stands to reason that such piece would be popular here and country pursuit subjects, horse racing, barn interiors and hunting related works rightfully remain very popular in this part of the country.

This led to several good prices; A John Worsdale oil of a horse and donkey in an interior fetched £150. This was a good price for the artist and proved decorative and well painted can provide a good result.

A George E Cattley portrait of the racehorse Leasingham Lady made £480. Through the name of this equine specimen, one would assume there was local interest resulting in this high price and again highlights that even in this world of the internet and worldwide, global sales, it is better to sell paintings country related in an area where such pursuits are extremely popular.

This is further shown by the two works by Frances Mabel Holland (1877-1963), with paintings in oil on board as typical of the artist of two racehorses Hill Morton and Golden Arrow, each passing the post in a photo finish making as they did £1600 each.

These results are all strong and provide further evidence Golding Young is the place to buy and sell country, equine and rural works, whether you have a Snaffles, or an Aldin, a Munnings or even a Stubbs, let Golding Young see it, we may just achieve more than anyone else!
