County Antiques Expert joins David Dickinson at Lincolnshire Showground

26th January 2011

Lincolnshire TV and radio antiques expert Colin Young will be filming four programmes of Dickinson's Real Deal with The Duke himself on Saturday, January 29.

Now Mr Young, a Senior Auctioneer with Golding Young and Thos. Mawer which has salerooms in Grantham and Lincoln, is asking county folk to join him and the show's namesake David Dickinson on the day. Mr Young said: "We're inviting local people to take part in the show by dusting off their rare antiques and collectables and bringing them down to the Showground on the day of filming. "It's a great chance for people to see some of the goings-on behind the scenes of Dickenson's Real Deal and be filmed for the programme as well." The Real Deal enables owners of antiques and collectibles to get the best deal for their items either from an antiques expert who makes them an immediate cash offer, or by taking it to auction at a later date.

The Real Deal team of qualified off-screen experts are on hand to advise on the potential value of items before the owners go head-to-head with the on- screen dealers.

Once the dealers have given their opinion on a piece, they make the owners an offer for the item. Standing in the wings, David Dickinson makes sure each owner gets the best price for their items, and Mr Young will be on hand to advise on their chances if they decide to go to auction. The owner makes the decision whether to take the cash lump sum or see how they fair in the auction room. Owners who chose to take their item to auction will see it featured in the next sale at the Lincoln auction rooms of Golding Young and Thos. Mawer on Portland Street on Wednesday, February 16. Mr Young will be conducting the sale on the day. Real Deal's spokesman Dean Bundy said: "Real Deal is a free event for people to come along and sell their heirlooms and antiques. We're looking for everything from traditional antiques to the weird and wonderful." Mr Young first worked with David Dickinson on the 2002 Bargain Hunt Christmas Special and has been auctioneer or expert on over 40 of the various antiques shows David has presented.
