From 1992-95 John studied for his professional career by gaining a BA (Hons) degree in Fine & Decorative Arts Valuation at Southampton Solent University. Southampton was the UK's undisputed No.1 course and was RICS accredited.
In 1995 he joined Bellman’s Auctioneers in West Sussex where he trained and became a Senior Valuer, Auctioneer and Company Director. He worked extensively alongside Sotheby's and Christie's in that role.
In 1997 he took his first sale in Lincolnshire at the ISVA National Auction Competition selling a Lancaster Bomber!
In 2000 he became a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, qualifying as a Chartered Art & Antiques Surveyor.
His personal interests and specialism is in English and European Ceramics and Glass.
For 2009 until 2011 John took a sabbatical to complete a Masters degree in Museum Studies.
He then worked as an Auctioneer & Valuer for Batemans of Stamford for 5 years until the end of 2015 when a key role became available with Golding Young at the start of 2016.
His timing in the role coincided with overseeing Bourne sell over £1million in 2017; for the first time since 1989, putting it firmly back on the map joining Grantham & Lincoln as of one of the leading UK auction salerooms.
John is a cataloguer serving all salerooms and offices by appointment and is available for home visits with clients throughout the UK.
He is currently our Head of Department at Grantham.
