January 22 saw The Bourne Auction Rooms switch from Saturday to Wednesday for the first time, bringing it into line with the Grantham and Lincoln salerooms.
The impact of the change was felt on two fronts.
As well as the usual impact of international and UK internet bidding, the saleroom saw an impressive increase in traditional buyers in the room. Today, most people have a flexible work/life balance that enables them to attend a viewing or sale on a weekday. It was clear from the buying community that Wednesday is 'The Auction Day' for Lincolnshire.
Auctioneer Colin Young said, "Wednesday was traditionally a half-day closing day in most Lincolnshire county towns. This was the auction day of choice because of all the extra number of private buyers around. Changing to Wednesday at Bourne has certainly been validated by the number of buyers in the room".
The impact was also seen in the sale results which continued to go from strength to strength, due to the enormous client base held by Golding Young & Mawer. December saw just over 90% of lots finding buyers and January continued the momentum with over 93% of lots going to a new home.
The sale held a commercial asset element with quality office furniture. "It was the most chairs I have seen in this saleroom"commented Bourne saleroom manager, Alastair McPhie-Meiklejon"they were all taken and the isles were crammed full of standing bidders too".
