Pretty '50s day dresses, platform shoes and patchwork quilts will be the order of the day at a sale of vintage fashion, textiles and accessories at the Lincoln auction rooms.
Now dedicated followers of fashion of yesteryear are being invited to raid their wardrobes for items to include in the sale which will be held at Thomas Mawer and Son of Portland Street on Saturday, July 3.
Auctioneer John Leatt said: "Vintage fashion has never had a bigger following. Whether it's fashionistas following the celebrity trend for vintage, re-enactors recreating a particular period or collectors keen to find a sought-after piece, the demand has never been greater.
"This sale will tap in to that demand - indulging the passion of fashion followers, whilst at the same time allowing owners to cash in items which may have wallowed in their wardrobe for many years.
"We're asking people to search their wardrobes and attics to find quality items which depict an era, from Victorian mourning dresses to bold Mary Quant miniskirts of the '60s. At this stage we're not certain what people might bring in, but the auction certainly promises to be a fun and very fashionable event!"
The sale will include women's, men's and children's clothing and costume from the Victorian period and earlier right up to the 1970s with prices to suit every pocket from £10 to several hundreds.
Any good quality items will be considered for inclusion such as Victorian mourning dresses, vintage wedding gowns, everyday dresses from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, wartime and military clothing and even '70s kipper ties, flares and platform heels!
Designer outfits will be in high demand with names like Dior, Mary Quant and Vivien Westwood topping the bill. Accessories are also popular such as handbags and clutches, shoes, costume jewellery, hats, gloves, stockings and underwear (clean, of course!).
Among the textiles, the auctioneers will be on the look out for patchwork quilts, brightly printed dress and curtain fabrics, tablecloths, doilies, linens and tea towels. There will also be a section for ephemera like fashion prints, sewing patterns, packaging and advertising.
