Art collectors and enthusiasts will be heading to the Lincoln auction rooms when over £100,000 of pictures go under the auctioneer's hammer.
The second Specialist Fine Art auction of the year, which will be held at auctioneers Golding Young & Mawer's Portland Street saleroom on Wednesday, June 26 at 7pm, will feature 225 lots in three sections: 19th century and modern, local interest and 18th and 19th century.
Auctioneer William Gregory said: "We are delighted to be holding the second Fine Art auction of the year which includes fine examples by leading artists that will appeal to collectors worldwide.
"There has already been a good level of interest in many of the lots and we are expecting high numbers of bidders in the room, on the telephones and over the Internet on sale day."
The first section of the sale features 19th century and modern pictures, many of which have been consigned by a private collector from Nottinghamshire. It begins with a signed oil on board titled 'Beach scene' by Fred Yates (1922-2008), which is expected to sell for between £1,200 and £1,600. The second lot is a signed oil on board of an 'Italian male' by the Scottish colourist, Alberto Morrocco (1917-1998), which has an estimate of £3,000 to £5,000.
A drawing/watercolour/collage by Mary Feddon (1915-2012) of a bird in a naturalistic setting, signed and dated 1985, is expected to sell for between £1,800 and £2,400, whilst a watercolour and gouache painting by Roy Turner Durrant (1925-1998) titled 'Landscape' from his Airfield series has an estimate of between £1,000 and £1,500.
A signed oil on canvas still life of a model ship by John Boyd (1940-2001) carries an estimate of between £1,200 and £1,600 and an oil on canvas of a seated female by Anthony Devas (1911-1958), which bears the label of William and Sons, Grafton Street, London, has an estimate of between £1,200 and £1,600.
Meanwhile, a bronze figure of a female nude, signed and dated 1976, by the artist Vincent Butler (b. 1933) has been estimated to sell for between £1,200 and £1,600. Standing just 46cm high, it is model number three out of only six produced.
Two signed oil on glass works titled 'Sun Rise' and 'Sun Rise II' by Richard Rowan (b. 1974) are expected to sell for £800 to £1,200 each.
The next section of the sale, Local Interest, includes three works by the Lincoln artist Antonin (Tony) Bartl (1912-1998) - a signed street scene in watercolour with an estimate of between £200 and £300, a standing portrait of a woman titled 'Pat' with an estimate of between £250 and £350, and a pastel study of two females which also has a £250 to £350 estimate.
There are also two oil on boards by the well-known Lincoln artist Gill Nadin (1928-1996) which both have estimates of between £80 to £120. Both dated 1976, the first painting is titled 'Welches Dam - Early Morning I' and the second, 'Early Morning II'.
A watercolour of a country house with a lake and figures in the foreground is thought to be that of Sudbrooke Hall in Lincolnshire. The work, which is dated 1836 and is signed by the artist Thomas Miles Richardson (1784-1848), is expected to sell for between £400 and £800.
There is also a watercolour of Lincoln from the West Common, signed and dated 1976, by Len Roope (1917-2005) which is estimated to sell for £80 to £120.
The 18th and 19th century section of the sale includes a good selection of hunting and shooting pictures including an oil on canvas of game birds and hare, signed and dated 1846, by John Christopher Bell (act. 1841-1892) which has an estimate of between £800 and £1,200.
An oil on canvas of pike, trout and roach on a riverbank by Henry Leonidas Rolfe (1824-1881) is estimated to sell for between £1,500 and £2,000 and the signed watercolour 'Pheasant over Hockham' by Robert W. Milliken (b. 1920) is expected to make between £800 and £1,200.
There are also a number of topographical works including a monogrammed street scene in Cairo in oil by Frederick Goodall (1822-1904), which has an estimate of between £800 and £1,200, and a watercolour harbour scene with boats and figures by Abdullah Ariff (1904-1965) which has the same estimate.
Of the many traditional paintings in this section of the sale, an oil on board titled 'Bords de Riviere' signed by the artist Theodore Rousseau (1812-1867) bears the catalogue label and has an estimate of between £4,000 and £6,000, whilst an oil on canvas of sheep and cattle on a landscape by Thomas Sidney Cooper (1803-1902) is expected to sell for between £1,500 and £2,500.
