At the end of 2025 there was a new record price in the value of silver having hit £50 per oz under the hammer just before Christmas. 

As 2026 started that high was still maintained with this wonderful Victorian canteen by Martin Hall & Co of Sheffield selling for £9500 on Wednesday 14th January 2026 and catalogued as follows.

A Victorian silver canteen of cutlery, with an embossed fan shaped terminal, and wave bordered shaft, reserve initial E engraved, comprising 18 table forks, 23 dessert forks, 2 cream ladles, 12 soup spoons, 8 table spoons, 2 basting spoons, a soup ladle, 18 dessert spoons, and 4 knife rests, Martin Hall & Co., Sheffield 1896, 223.4oz, contained in a two door, six drawer oak cabinet, with brass shield escutcheons to the lid, raised on a separate table base, 91cm x 52cm x 41cm.
