The recent collective sale, which took place at Grantham Auction Rooms on December 4th, attracted a strong turnout, with visitors taking the chance to bid on a wide range of items - from retro classics to Asian art.
Two of the top selling items dated from the 1970s, with Lot 807 a beautiful Heal's rosewood dining table and matching set of eight chairs attracting the best price. Originally bought from London-based furniture specialist Waring & Gillow, bringing this to auction proved to be shrewd move, with strong bidding resulting in a sale price of £650.
Also from the 1970s was Lot 372, a stunning pair of Kalmar chrome and moulded glass chandeliers, featuring moulded glass icicle panels and associated light fittings, which went for £460 - above its estimate of £300 - £400.
Other interesting lots included Lot 1, an Anglo-Indian ivory inlaid workbox, by Jai Ram Das Nathu Ram, which sold for £420 - also above estimate. This elegant piece has a top that opens to reveal a vanity mirror and internal compartments with brass handles.
Militaria was also on offer - Lot 401 a German 1914 Iron Cross in its original velvet Picklehaub case sold for £320, whilst Lot 412 was a First World War medal group comprising a 1914-18 War Medal, Victory Medal and a Territorial War Medal inscribed to 200641 Sgt. W.H. Land, Lincolnshire Regt, complete with Lincoln Imp pin badge and facsimile letter. The local interest here may have contributed to the impressive sale price of £540.
