The Victorian silver and clear glass 'Drake' design claret jug, by London silversmith Alexander Crichton, is the star lot in next Wednesday's Golding Young and Mawer Grantham Collective Sale.
The 36cm tall claret jug is modelled as a rearing duck and carries an October 1, 1881, registration mark.
"The estimate of between £18,000 and £22,000 reflects the rarity and quality of the claret jug," auctioner Colin Young told granthampeople.
"These items do not come up for sale very often.
"It was bought by the vendors when they visited a brocante while they were on holiday in France, simply because they thought it was pretty.
"They researched the item when they got home to Nottinghamshire and got a pleasant surprise when they found out how much it is actually worth."
Alexander Crichton created more than 34 animal-shaped silver and glass claret jugs between 1881 and 1882.
"The highest price paid is for the 'Walrus' design," added Mr Young.
