TV celebrity antique expert and auctioneer Colin Young will be heading to Southwell, Nottinghamshire, for a series of free valuation days.

Mr Young, who is the owner of Lincolnshire auctioneers Golding Young & Mawer, is a regular expert on TV's Bargain Hunt and an auctioneer on Flog it!, Dickinson's Real Deal and Antiques Road Trip.

Now he and Fine Art and Antiques Specialist John Leatt, who lives near Southwell, will be heading for The Saracen's Head in the town for the first of a series of free valuation days starting on Wednesday, March 27 between 9am and 1pm. A valuation day will then be held on the fourth Wednesday of every month thereafter.

Local people are invited to bring their antiques and collectables along on the day for a free valuation with the possibility of entering the items into the next available sale at the Lincoln auction rooms.

Mr Young said: "We are intrigued to see what local people will bring along to be valued. From fine art and antiques to bygones and collectables, we will be delighted to give our expert opinion on value for sale or advice on insurance valuations."

Auctioneer Colin Young With The Aboriginal Broad Shield Which Sold For £30,000
Such a valuation day proved profitable for one Lincolnshire lady who took a number of family heirlooms for appraisal. Among a group of tribal art pieces, an Aboriginal broad shield was consigned to auction at Golding Young & Mawer's Lincoln auction rooms in August last year, selling for a hammer price of £30,000.

Bidding was fast and exciting with bids made in the room, by proxy, by telephone and webcast via the Internet. The international mix of collectors, dealers and museums comprised interest from the UK, the USA and France and was finally fought by the internal Australian market.

The final and securing bid was made by the Sydney Museum of Primitive Art on the telephone with the under bidder being a leading Australian gallery dealing in such artefacts which was bidding on the Internet.
