With 30 years experience Colin has sold over one and a half million lots with an A-Z of items ranging from Antiques to Zoo Animals.

Colin joined the profession in 1986 with Lyall & Co at The Bourne Auction Rooms.

In 1989 he joined Golding's as Manager at The Grantham Auction Rooms at the age of 21. Since 1994 he has been the firm's Principal Auctioneer & Valuer.

He qualified as an auctioneer in 1991 as an Associate member of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers and in 1992 became a Fellow. Colin has served 8 years on NAVA Executive Committees and is appointed to the 2017 Chattels Committee.

In 1996 he became the ISVA Young Auctioneer of the Year. The coveted title was won on the back of an impressive 8 victories in 9 years in the regional heats. He also delivered a further 3 runner-up trophies in the national finals over the period.

Colin is a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, qualifying as a Chartered Art & Antiques Surveyor.

He was the 2003 recipient of the RICS/Antiques Trade Gazette Prize for Professional Assessment.

Colin is also an Associate member of The Society of Fine Art Auctioneers.

Since 2002 Colin has been an Expert on the multi-award-winning BBC antiques show - BARGAIN HUNT. A regular contributor to Prime-Time, Day-Time & Live programmes.

Jan Squires

Jewllery Head of Department.

Senior Auctioneer & Valuer.

Jan is a Fellow of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers, qualifying in 2001. She has also served on the NAVA Executive Committee.

She became Goldings first lady auctioneer in 2000 after training as the auctioneers' clerk and has been a driving force of the firm's management for over 10 years.

Jan is a general Valuer, but having received the Professional Jewellery Gemstone Diploma of the National Association of Goldsmiths, she became our Senior Jewellery Valuer. She actively guides and advises the firm's next generation of valuers.

Appointments for consultancy with Jan can be made at either the Bourne, Grantham, Lincoln or Stamford offices.

She has also been an Expert on the BBC's Flog It! program.

William Gregory

Private Client & Professional Services Head of Department.

William is the Head of our Private Client & Professional Services Department serving clients across the world.

He is available to advise private and corporate clients on their art and antiques collections in respect of insurance, acquisition and disposal.

He is a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, qualifying as a Chartered Art & Antiques Surveyor in 1998.

He was the 1999 recipient of the RICS/Antiques Trade Gazette Prize for Professional Assessment.

William joined Thos. Mawer & Son in 1982 and stayed at The Lincoln Auction Rooms as an auctioneer and valuer until 1999.

He then joined Manchester firm Capes Dunn where he stayed for 10 years.  Amongst his successes were the 20thC and Northern Art auction sales held in the Urbis Centre.

His passion and success in the art market is replicated in Lincoln with three annual evening picture sales. Summer 2013 saw the first of these sales to realise over £100,000.

William is also currently engaged as team leader undertaking a world-wide antiques valuation program including collections in Vienna, Warsaw, Paris, Rome, Ankara, Istanbul, Washington, Brasilia, Bangkok & Tokyo.

2017 takes him across the continent of Africa.

John Leatt

Lincoln Head of Department & Resident Valuer.

John has been associate member of The Society of Fine Art Auctioneers for many years.

He started his professional career with Dreweatt's in Newbury and upon merger with Neales of Nottingham he then became a Director.

He joined Thos. Mawer & Son in 2009 bringing with him over 20 years experience.

John's expertise and cataloguing skills has overseen many Marquee and Country House sales including our Orston Hall and Waddington Manor sales.

John is also currently engaged as a member of the team undertaking a world-wide antiques valuation program including collections across Europe and America.

He is principally based at The Lincoln Auction Rooms, although he is available by appointment at all of our offices and for visits with clients throughout the UK.

Craig is a Fellow of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers, qualifying in 2014.

His interest in antiques and fine art started early and he received a BA (Hons) degree in History of Art at De Montfort University.

Craig started his professional career with us in Lincoln in 2002.

In 2007, he then moved to Brown & Co at The Brigg Auction Rooms to continue and develop his career further.

Craig returned to our firm in 2014 and after gaining his NAVA Fellowship was promoted to Head of Department.

He is principally based at The Grantham Auction Rooms, although he is available by appointment at all of our offices and for visits with clients throughout the UK.

From 1992-95 John studied for his professional career by gaining a BA (Hons) degree  in  Fine & Decorative Arts Valuation at Southampton Solent University. Southampton was the UK's undisputed No.1 course and was RICS accredited.

In 1995 he joined Bellman’s Auctioneers in West Sussex where he trained and became a Senior Valuer, Auctioneer and Company Director. He worked extensively alongside Sotheby's and Christie's in that role.

In 1997 he took his first sale in Lincolnshire at the ISVA National Auction Competition selling a Lancaster Bomber!

In 2000 he became a Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, qualifying as a Chartered Art & Antiques Surveyor.

His personal interests and specialism is in English and European Ceramics and Glass.

For 2009 until 2011 John took a sabbatical to complete a Masters degree in Museum Studies.

He then worked as an Valuer & Auctioneer in Stamford for 5 years until the end of 2015  when a key role became available with Golding Young at the start of 2016.

John is available at The Bourne Auction Rooms every Friday 9am to 1pm for Free advice and auction appraisals. He is also available The Stamford Valuation Office by appointment and for home visits with clients throughout the UK.

Kirsty Young

Auctioneer, Appraiser & Jewellery Valuer.

Webmaster & Live Bidding Operative.

Kirsty is the second generation Young to be involved in the firm and has received a full and varied grounding in auction house protocols over her formative years.

In 2012 she passed the NAVA Technical Award in Chattels Auctioneering and at 17 became the youngest person to be admitted as a full member of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers.

Kirsty took to the rostrum for the first time in the summer of 2012, selling over 120 lots. A month later she competed in the NAVA Novice Auctioneer of the Year competition.  Since 2013 she has firmly established herself as a Senior Auctioneer becoming highly respected by buyers and peers alike. She sold on each day of the firm's marathon 150th Anniversary Sale in all 3 salerooms.

In 2014 Kirsty completed the two year JET I & II (Jewellery Education & Training) course with The National Association of Goldsmiths. She passed (with distinction) and now holds the coveted Professional Jewellers Diploma.

She continues her studies in Antiques & Fine Art as apprenticeship to become one of the firm's valuers.

In 2014 she was appointed Saleroom Manager at the age of 19, beating her father to the position by 2 years.

January 2015 saw her first appearance as an auctioneer on BBC's Antiques Road Trip followed by appearances on BBC Bargain Hunt.

Andrew Doubleday

Grantham Saleroom Manager.

Auctioneer and Appraiser.

Andrew has ensured the smooth running of auction sales and the control of over 20,000 lots per annum since 2003.

He is usually the first person clients see at Grantham to advise on the auction process and assessing the appraisal requirements of over 200 clients per sale.

Andrew is a leading catalogue photographer.

In 2012 Andrew gained the NAVA Technical Award in Chattels Auctioneering.  He is now a member of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers. Andrew conducted his first auction sale in 2013.

Bourne Saleroom Manager.

Justin first joined Golding Young whilst at university and spent all of his 'holidays' in The Grantham Auction Rooms. 

Upon leaving university in 2015 he transferred to Lincoln as Head Porter. Here he gained much experience during the transitions of 2016 when we were running two salerooms in the city, where he stayed through to the opening of Thos Mawer House.

In January 2017 he was appointed Saleroom Manager at Bourne where he is now working to obtain NAVA professional qulaifications.

She started with us part-time whilst at university in 2012 and became full-time in 2016 working across all of our offices.

Emily's training evolved around the sale calendar combining tasks of live bidding operative, saleroom and administration assistant from front of house reception to back room photography.

In 2017 she was promoted to become a saleroom Manager at Lincoln and is starting her NAVA qualifications.

Richard Plant

Leicestershire & Rutland Representative.

Richard is a member of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers.

He is a third generation auctioneer who trained with the firm of Warner, Sheppard & Wade in Leicester.  He was subsequently Managing Director when the firm became known as Warner Auctions.

This platform gives Richard over 30 years experience as a valuer and 25 years as an auctioneer in and around Leicester and the East Midlands.

He appeared on the BBC's Bargain Hunt in the early days of the show with David Dickinson.

Richard is a former Chairman of The Leicester Antiques Society and currently serves as a furnishings & valuables advisor to the diocese of Leicester & Southwell.

Suki Bernett

Northern Counties Representative.

Suki has over 40 years experience in cataloguing and valuing antiques and works of art, with over 10 years qualified as a Fellow of the National Association of Valuers & Auctioneers.

Having managed an auction house as part of this she has an extensive breadth and depth of technical knowledge.

 

Suki has also been one of the verifiers for BBC Antiques Master programme and is also an off-screen valuer for BBC Flog It!

Alastair McPhie-Meiklejon

Consultant & Louth Office Manager.

Cambridgeshire Representative

Alastair graduated from Gloucester University with an Honours degree in History, obtaining the essential broad knowledge required for the diversity of items handled by leading provincial salerooms.

His areas of specialism are Music, Horology, Militaria, Classic Cars and Automobilia.

He was appointed Bourne Saleroom Manager in the summer of 2013, following our merger with Richardsons and in 2014 became Head of Department. After a short sabbatical he returned in 2016 on a consultancy basis to co-ordinate valuation days in Cambridgeshire and now runs our office in Louth.

He is available two days per week in the Louth office and at our monthly valuation days in Huntingdon. Appointments for visits with clients throughout the UK are welcomed.

Paul Johnson

Stamford Office Manager.

Consultant Auctioneer.

Paul started his career with Lyall & Co and for many years was an auctioneer at Bourne and Corby Sheep Fair.

He succesfully ran his own estate agency in Stamford therafter until selling the pratcice in 2014.

Paul now runs the Stamford & Rutland Valuation Office, present every Friday morning 10am to 1pm.

Michael is a specialist consultant with over 10 years auction house experience primarily dealing with books, manuscripts, stamps and ephemera.

He started his career at Bloomsbury in London as a junior cataloguer.  Since then he has held Head of Department positions at leading firms in England & Scotland.

He is available to advise clients on the sale and valuation of collections and libraries throughout the UK.
