 Valuation Services

 Sale Valuations

For items brought to any of our offices verbal pre-sale estimates and advice are offered free of charge. Preliminary appraisals from photographs are also free.

For less portable items we can make an appointment for a Valuer to call at your home. Should you decide to sell quality items there is usually no charge. Should you decide not to sell a nominal fee will be charged to cover costs.

 Insurance Valuations

Providing your insurers with a written valuation will enable you to obtain the cover that is best suited to your requirements. If,  you are telling your insurer what is to be covered, they know the risk and can calculate the premium accurately and offer the best policy.

Over insuring your furniture and effects results in paying higher premiums for  unwanted cover. This can be as costly as discovering that something is not covered when you have to make a claim.

So what form does a written valuation take?. The requirements of each client are different and your needs will be assessed by one of our qualified Valuers. We would discuss what needs to be included and offer guidance to the cost. It may be necessary to do a pre-valuation inspection where large collections or specialist items are to be included.

Following our Valuers visit to your premises,  you will be provided with a draft valuation report which will be discussed and then finalised with your approval. The report will contain a full description of each item, the basis of the valuation and its reinstatement value. Photographic records may also be provided. Two copies of the final formally bound report will be dispatched to you.

Our fees are calculated on a time basis, not percentages.

 IHT (Probate) Valuations

For many Executors and Trustees the responsibility of dealing with a deceased’s Estate is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You have to make a number of important decisions in a very short space of time, all at a time when the loss is most difficult to come to terms with.

Valuations and Inventories of home contents and personal effects (chattels) are extremely useful tools to the Executor. He, or she, may have to identify individual items that have been bequeathed or passed on in Trust to others.

A full Inventory of a property can eliminate third party claims that items are missing. Individuals can soon change if something does not benefit them in the way they had believed it should. The Executors should protect themselves from such spurious claims. An Inventory at the earliest point is essential, particularly on larger Estates.

The professional adviser to the Estate (usually a solicitor) will be in a position to decide if a Valuation is required for taxation purposes. Values can be put to individual items or given as an overall figure as appropriate.

Reports and Fees.

The report usually comprises an inventory with an overall total, together with breakdowns of bequests, residuals and individual items where necessary.
